KENTUCKY — Jim Beam has announced a pause in production at its main distillery in Kentucky, set to begin on January 1. This decision comes amid issues related to supply and taxation.
The Kentucky location holds to more than 16 million aging barrels of bourbon, which are subject to state taxes, according to the company. A state trade group reported that distillers paid $75 million in taxes for these barrels this year, marking a 27 percent increase from the previous year.
The company said the taxes and President Donald Trump’s tariffs contributed to the decision to halt production.
