Japanese Garden opens for the season April 1

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden at Manito Park will open for the season Wednesday, April 1.

The garden will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Originally designed by landscape architect Nagao Sakurai, the garden was completed in 1974 and symbolizes the friendship between Spokane and its sister city, Nishinomiya, Japan.

The garden is named in honor of Ed Tsutakawa, who helped establish the sister-city relationship with his ancestral home of Nishinomiya and brought Sakurai from Japan to assist in developing the garden.
