Idaho Transportation Dept. and law enforcement team up for annual Click It or Ticket campaign

BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho Transportation Department is partnering with law enforcement agencies across the state for this year’s Click It or Ticket campaign this May.

Starting May 11, officers will increase patrols to educate drivers on the importance of seat belt use.

ITD says of the 160 people in passenger vehicles over the age of 7 who were killed in Idaho in 2024, only 62 were wearing seatbelts. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seatbelts cut the risk of death and injury in a crash in half.

“More Idahoans are buckling up, but we need to do better to prevent fatal and serious injury crashes,” said Josephine Middleton, Highway Safety Manager. “Taking two seconds to buckle up makes you 50% more likely to survive a crash.”

ITD says law enforcement will put a special focus during this campaign on rural areas where fatalities are more common.
