BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Department of Correction is preparing to implement execution by firing squad as the primary method of execution starting July 1, 2026.
The department said they will begin phase two of retrofitting the execution unit in F-Block at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution. The estimated completion time for this retrofit is 6 to 9 months.
During construction, F-Block will be offline starting May 23, 2025, making all execution-related procedures unavailable.
The department said in a release they are confident they will meet the timeline and budget requirements.
