BOISE, Idaho – Governor Brad Little has activated members of the Idaho National Guard to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Up to 14 guardsmen will support ICE by handling administrative and clerical tasks.

Officials stated that this support will allow federal agents to focus more on frontline enforcement. The guardsmen will remain under state control while collaborating directly with ICE to develop support plans.

This decision follows a notification from the U.S. Secretary of Defense, indicating that up to 1,700 guardsmen nationwide could be called upon. Idaho’s deployment is federally funded and scheduled to last until November 15.

Governor Little announced the guard’s readiness to serve in ways that strengthen public safety and national security.
