COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – A firefighter injured in a recent ambush attack in Coeur d’Alene is now in stable condition and talking with his family. David Tysdal, one of three firefighters shot in the incident, is recovering at a local hospital.

The attack, which investigators say involved a fire intentionally set to lure firefighters, left Battalion Chief John Morrison and Frank Harwood dead. Tysdal, shot once in the back, has undergone three successful surgeries. He is experiencing difficulty feeling anything from the chest down but is making progress.

“We’re working on getting him to a top neurological facility very soon,” said one of Tysdal’s colleagues.

Tysdal’s friends and coworkers at Fire Station 3 shared their optimism about his recovery. “There is a long road ahead, but we have no doubt that Tysdal will make a full recovery,” added one of his colleagues.

Doctors are hopeful that as the swelling in Tysdal’s back subsides, he will regain feeling in his legs and eventually walk again. His family, including his three children, remains by his side throughout his recovery.
