IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – House Speaker Mike Johnson visited Idaho Falls to discuss the recently passed “One Big Beautiful Bill,” emphasizing the benefits of the federal government’s new spending plan, signed into law by President Donald Trump on July 4.
Johnson spoke at Melaleuca, a wellness company in Idaho Falls. He highlighted the positive impacts of the bill, including more take-home pay and lower taxes for residents.
However, Lauren Necochea, the Idaho Democratic Party Chair, expressed skepticism about the bill’s benefits.
“He didn’t meet with parents of kids with disabilities worried about losing Medicaid. He didn’t listen to seniors who rely on Medicare or veterans who depend on their hard-earned benefits,” Necochea stated.
Necochea continued to criticize Johnson’s visit.
“He didn’t talk to farmers hurt by Trump’s trade war. He didn’t hear from working families already stretched thin by high costs. Instead, he met behind closed doors with the wealthy donors he and his party answer to,” she said.
The debate continues as residents and political leaders assess the potential impacts of the new spending plan on various communities in Idaho.
