Idaho attorney general pushes Supreme Court on transgender sports law

BOISE, Idaho – Idaho is once again at the forefront of a national legal debate concerning transgender athletes in women’s sports.

Attorney General Raúl Labrador has asked the Supreme Court to immediately take up the state’s 2020 law, which was the first of its kind in the country. Since then, 26 other states have passed similar bans.

However, enforcement of these laws has been challenging. Public schools and colleges find themselves caught between conflicting court rulings, federal policies, and NCAA guidelines.

In a new legal brief, Attorney General Labrador, along with a conservative nonprofit group, argues that the current confusion is detrimental to students, particularly girls. They claim that girls are losing out on scholarships and accolades.

They are urging the Supreme Court to intervene now instead of sending the case back to a lower court.

Currently, there is no timeline for when or if the Supreme Court will hear Idaho’s case. Legal experts suggest that the decision could become a landmark in the ongoing national debate over transgender athletes in sports.
