Hyundai factory raid near Savannah detains 475 workers
SAVANNAH, Ga. – A recent immigration raid at a Hyundai factory west of Savannah led to the detainment of 475 workers, primarily South Koreans, according to an attorney representing some of the workers.
The attorney stated that many of those detained were engineers and equipment installers involved in highly specialized work at the battery factory under construction.
He emphasized that their work was authorized under the B1 Business Visitor Visa program.
“They had planned to be in the US for just a couple of weeks and never longer than 75 days,” the attorney said.
The raid, which took place on Thursday, has raised concerns about the treatment and status of foreign workers in the area.
The implications of this event are significant for both the local community and the workers involved.
