House Republicans stop votes during government shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republicans have decided to call off votes in the House on Monday as the government shutdown continues. Speaker Johnson is maintaining his strategy of keeping the chamber out of legislative session during this period.

Members of the House have not gathered in Washington for a session since the end of September. At that time, the chamber passed a temporary funding bill that did not advance in the Senate.

Democrats have expressed their frustration with the Republicans’ actions. Senator Patty Murray criticized the decision, saying Republicans are “on vacation.”

The situation remains tense as both parties navigate the ongoing government shutdown.
