House fire in Spokane’s South Hill sends 1 man to hospital

SPOKANE, Wash. – A house fire early this morning on Spokane’s South Hill has sent one man to the hospital.

The Spokane Fire Department responded to the 3900 block of South Havana Street at 2:45 a.m. after a neighbor reported the blaze.

According to officials, the fire is largely under control, but crews remain on the scene addressing hot spots. A man was found inside the home and taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. His current condition is unknown.

The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, Havana Street is closed from 38th to 40th Avenue as first responders work on the scene.

A neighbor, who called 911, reported being awakened by dogs barking and the sound of popping from the fire. “They were on scene within five minutes of the call,” the neighbor said.

The investigation into the fire’s origin continues as crews work to ensure the area is safe.
