SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) responded to a house fire Wednesday night around 9:30 p.m. on the 12200 block of East 38th Avenue.
Firefighters from SVFD and Spokane County Fire District 8 arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the back of the house and the roof. The fire reportedly started on the deck and spread into the attic.
SVFD confirmed the house was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported. The damage to the home and property is estimated at $109,000.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
SVFD urged the public to be cautious during any kind of barbecue activities.
“Keep grills away from the home, deck railings, and out from under eaves. Clean grills regularly to prevent grease buildup and never leave a grill unattended while in use,” SVFD added.
