WASHINGTON – Hormel Foods Corporation has recalled approximately 4,874,815 pounds of frozen chicken products due to potential metal contamination, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The affected products, including chicken breast and thigh meats, were distributed to HRI Commercial Food Service locations nationwide from February 10, 2025, through September 19, 2025. The issue was discovered after multiple complaints from customers who found metal pieces in the frozen chicken products.
Hormel Foods identified the source of the metal as the conveyor belt used in production. While no injuries have been reported, FSIS urges businesses such as hotels and restaurants to refrain from serving the product and to dispose of it immediately.
FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure the products are removed from circulation. Consumers with questions can contact Hormel Foods Customer Relations via their website or at 1-800-523-4635.
For food safety questions, consumers can reach out to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or email MPHotline@usda.gov. Problems with meat, poultry, or egg products can be reported through the online Electronic Consumer Complaint Monitoring System.
