COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The community is honoring the two firefighters who were shot and killed while responding to a fire on Canfield Mountain. Fire officials are inviting the public to join the processional on Tuesday morning.
Battalion Chief Frank Harwood, who served with the Kootenai Fire and Rescue Team for 17 years, and Battalion Chief John Morrison, with 28 years at the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, were victims of an ambush.
A third firefighter, Dave Tysdall, remains in critical but stable condition after undergoing multiple surgeries. Tysdall is an engineer with the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department.
The fire believed to be set intentionally to lure the firefighters, has led to the identification of 20-year-old Wes Roley as the suspect.
Tuesday, a procession will honor Harwood and Morrison. It will begin at 10:00 a.m. from the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office, traveling east on I-90 to Coeur d’Alene.
The route will end at the English Funeral Chapel on North 4th Street. The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department invites the public to pay respects along the route safely.
NonStop Local will live stream the procession, and further details on the funeral will be provided once learned.
