The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the incident on U.S. Highway 97 is being investigated as a homicide.
According to the sheriff’s office, around 12 p.m. deputies were dispatched to a report of an unresponsive man in a car on U.S. Highway 97 near Orondo. When deputies arrived, they confirmed the man was dead.
Deputies said the man had injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. A portion of Highway 97 is currently closed due to the investigation and the Washington State Department of Transportation has set up detours around the scene. The closure is expected to last several hours.
The sheriff’s office said the case is being investigated as a homicide, and anyone with information is asked to contact RiverCom Dispatch at (509) 663-9911.

Highway 97 will be closed between Chelan Hills Acres Road and Sun Cove Road for an estimated additional 6 to 8 hours while police investigate a suspicious death, according to an update from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
CHELAN, Wash. – U.S. Highway 97 is currently closed between mileposts 228 and 235 south of the Beebe Bridge, according to the Washington Department of Transportation, due to heavy police presence in the area.
WSDOT said they do not currently have an estimated time for reopening.
Those traveling between Wenatchee and Chelan are advised to use U.S. Highway 97A.
