MOSCOW, Idaho — A destructive windstorm hit the region just over a month ago, causing outages, property damage and uprooting trees.
Among the uprooted trees were three located in the University of Idaho’s Presidential Grove.
Two of these trees were planted by Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft during their visits to the campus in 1911.
While both trees remain standing, they sustained significant damage.
The university is now working to preserve this piece of campus history.
Portions of the trees have been preserved for future student projects, according to a statement on social media.
Experts will collect shoots and buds to grow replicas that will eventually be replanted in the grove.
