Heller Bar boat ramp closure may impact Snake River trips

ASOTIN COUNTY, Wash.– If you’re planning a fishing or rafting trip at Heller Bar on the Washington State side of the Snake River, be prepared for possible delays due to upcoming construction.

Starting around August 11, contractors will block off the north end of Heller Bar.

From August 18 to approximately August 20, the concrete boat ramp and part of the access area will be closed to remove a gravel bar that is obstructing river traffic, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) said in a release.

Rafters can still load rafts at the gravel beach area south of the ramp but not at the north end during this time.

To avoid delays, WDFW said people can use alternative launches such as Asotin Slough, the Couse Creek access area, or the Church Camp primitive launch.

The construction team emphasized that the work is being done during a small window in late summer when water levels are low, allowing for in-water work.
