Heat challenges search technology in hunt for Travis Decker

CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. – The search for Travis Decker, accused of killing his three young daughters, has been intensified. Federal authorities have now taken over the manhunt.

Efforts overnight have focused on the Ingalls Creek and Valley High area, located about 30 miles southwest of the Rock Island campground. This is where the bodies of the young girls were discovered.

Officials from Chelan, Douglas, and King counties are collaborating in the search. They have deployed resources including marked canine units, drones, and helicopters equipped with infrared technology to locate Decker.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, infrared technology is used to detect heat signatures, which can be challenging in warmer conditions. As temperatures rise, it becomes increasingly difficult to identify life signs.

The search efforts have been ongoing, with more crews joining throughout the day. The search teams are determined to locate Decker, and the community remains on alert as the investigation continues.
