HAYDEN LAKE, Idaho – A health advisory has been issued for Hayden Lake in North Idaho following the discovery of a harmful algal bloom near Sportsman’s Park. The bloom was confirmed to contain cyanobacteria, which can release dangerous toxins.

Residents and visitors are advised to steer clear of discolored or murky areas of the lake. Officials warn that boiling or filtering the water will not remove the toxins. Exposure to these toxins can lead to rashes, vomiting, coughing or more severe health issues if ingested.

The affected area of the lake may shift depending on the wind conditions. For updates, check the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality’s website.
