SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Public Works Department has announced a $940,000 grant dedicated to enhancing safety around Creekside Elementary School.
Senior Project Manager Jamie Hayes shared that this funding is part of the Safe Routes to School and Pedestrian Bike Program. Creekside, built in 2020 in the Mead area near Union Stadium, will benefit from this initiative.
Hayes explained that the grant will facilitate sidewalk improvements, ADA ramps, and flashing beacons in high-traffic areas. She emphasized the necessity of these upgrades, stating, “More than 10,000 vehicles travel near the school every day, with many going over the speed limit,” said Hayes.
These enhancements aim to ensure safer routes for students and the community, reflecting Spokane’s commitment to public safety.
