SPOKANE, Wash. – The Chabad of Spokane is hosting a public Grand Chanukah Celebration Thursday night, featuring a car menorah parade, a speech from Mayor Lisa Brown, a musical performance and other festivities.
The Chabad said the celebration will start at 4:15 p.m. at the Ferris High School Parking Lot, where menorahs will be placed on cars and driven towards downtown Spokane.
At 5 p.m. the giant menorah lighting will take place at Riverfront Park, where Mayor Lisa Brown will light the menorah.
Following the lighting, children and families are invited to enjoy a chocolate gelt drop from the top of a fire truck ladder.
At 6 p.m., the celebration will move to the Pavilion, where singer Eli Marcus will perform. The Chabad said the event will include arts and crafts, donut decorating with fresh donuts and latkes, a light dinner and live music.
“Chanukah is about bringing light into the public square,” Rabbi Yisroel Hahn, Director of Chabad of Spokane, said. “At a time when unity and hope are so important, this celebration allows our community to come together proudly, joyfully, and peacefully.”
The Chabad said all are welcome to join the event.
