OLYMPIA, Wash. – Governor Bob Ferguson and Attorney General Nick Brown hosted a press conference at the state capitol Monday, addressing a controversial ICE memo.
The memo directs agents to use force to enter homes without a judicial warrant, sparking concern from state leaders.
The discussion also covered how Washington is preparing for a potential increase in ICE presence and related legislation that is being developed.
Governor Ferguson emphasized the importance of defending the U.S. Constitution and the rights of Washington residents.
“The Constitution matters. We will defend it and ensure that people of our state are safe and secure in their homes. Second, I’m making some changes in our organization to help us coordinate our efforts in regard to ICE activity in Washington state,” he said.
Attorney General Brown detailed some of the 50 legal challenges Washington has brought against the Trump administration. He said he’s reiterating his commitment to fighting for the safety and integrity of Washingtonians.
