SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Good Samaritans helped Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies catch a hit-and-run driver who crashed through multiple fences, struck two parked vehicles and slammed into a power pole before attempting to flee on foot.
Deputies responded at 10:55 a.m. Monday near the intersection of N. Regal Street and Lincoln Road after a Toyota Camry crashed through a fence and hit two cars, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Good Samaritans guided deputies to the suspect’s location where they detained 42-year-old Glen C. Ray.
A witness observed Ray driving approximately 25 mph while swerving back and forth on Lincoln Road, according to deputies. He swerved off the road and accelerated instead of braking, striking a Mini Cooper, Toyota 4-Runner and an Avista power pole.
Several people checked on Ray after the crash, but he walked away from the scene, deputies said. Good Samaritans followed Ray and directed deputies to his location.
Ray refused to answer questions but told a deputy he ran because he didn’t have insurance, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ray was issued tickets for driving without a valid license, failure to renew registration and operating without insurance. He was booked into Spokane County Jail on three counts of hit-and-run-unattended.
