George Clooney discusses President Trump’s film tariffs

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Actor George Clooney has voiced his concerns over President Trump’s stance on filmmaking leaving Los Angeles. He believes that while Trump is correct about the issue, the proposed 100 percent tariffs on movies made outside of the United States would be harmful.

Clooney emphasized the importance of tax incentives to encourage production.

“What we need is the incentives the tax incentives that you get here in New York. By the way, they’re building studios here because there’s so much work. We need those,” said Clooney.

He further suggested discussing a federal incentive to retain jobs in Los Angeles.

“And by the way if he really wants to fix it then we should talk about a federal incentive passed to keep people working in Los Angeles,” said Clooney.

Clooney also proposed the idea of a federal rebate to support the film industry.

President Trump has claimed that more production has been taken from Hollywood. However, the details of how these tariffs would function remain unclear.

The US points out that the digital nature of films means they may not pass through ports of entry, complicating tariff enforcement.

Both the industry and officials continue to assess the potential impacts of these proposed tariffs on the movie industry.
