CHENEY, Wash. – Approximately twenty homes near Hibbard Park in Cheney were asked to evacuate the area due to a leak in a gas line, according to Cheney Fire Chief Tom Jenkins.
Officials on the scene went door to door asking people to evacuate due to winds blowing in the direction of Betz Road.
Jenkins said that the leak happened when a company laying fiber optic line hit a gas line, which caused a two-inch leak.
There may be a hole in the ground caused by the leak.
