COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – A Florida sex offender who had been on the run in North Idaho was arrested Thursday evening.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, marshals and investigators from multiple jurisdictions tracked Florida sex offender to downtown New Orleans.

The Louisiana State Police and the New Orleans Police Department said that they quickly located Fischer and arrested him. Authorities said he initially provided an alias to law enforcement but later revealed his true identity.

Deputy U.S. Marshals and the fugitive task force in the Middle District of Florida had pursued Fischer across the country for more than a year. He previously evaded law enforcement on Kelso Lake Road near Athol.

Fischer is wanted for failing to appear in court after he was arrested in Florida in 2022 for traveling to meet a minor for sexual purposes.

In February 2024, Fischer attended the first day of his trial while out on bond but failed to return for the second day. He has reportedly been on the run since then.

Fischer has a warrant for failure to appear and was convicted in absentia of traveling to meet a child. The court in Florida is awaiting his return for formal sentencing.
