Frozen yogurt shop in Coeur d’Alene honors Charlie Kirk, sparks debate

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – A local frozen yogurt shop, Grooveberries, has gained national attention for honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk with stickers on their yogurt cups.

The shop’s decision to commemorate Kirk’s legacy has prompted both support and criticism. Sarah Gibson, co-owner of Grooveberries, shared her experience with the unexpected attention.

“We had somebody come from 500 miles away yesterday. Yeah, they drove here same day,” Gibson said.

Gibson explained the reason behind their gesture.

“Just as the smallest gesture you could do, to just show the support and continue his legacy,” she said.

The shop’s tribute to Kirk has gone viral online, attracting media coverage from outlets like Fox News and the New York Post.

However, not all feedback has been positive. Gibson expressed concern about the backlash they faced.

“You know, as expected, we did get a lot of hate for that originally. And I was actually afraid for the business, initially,” she said. “We did receive one death threat that I’ve seen.”

In addition to online criticism, the shop has received negative phone calls and social media comments, as well as one protestor visiting the store.

“You know, we were getting an influx of one-star reviews from people that haven’t even been here, honestly. You know, from people all over the nation,” Gibson said

The reaction from the community has been mixed, with some supporting the shop and others voicing their disagreement. One Facebook comment highlighted the desire for an option to not use a Charlie Kirk cup for those who do not want to.

Regardless of the mixed reactions, Grooveberries has certainly captured the nation’s attention.

“The outpouring of support has been unbelievable. Truly,” Gibson said.
