UPDATE: October 7 at 5:35 p.m.

Frank’s restaurant reopened quickly after the fire scare, thanks to prompt action and regular maintenance.

Owner Robin Bernhart explained the importance of their cleaning routine. She said the range hood is cleaned every night and deep cleaned every three months, which helped prevent damage.

“We certainly thank our lucky stars,” Bernhart said. “I think we’ve got a great maintenance process and great vendors that work with that make sure that our restaurant is clean and that our grease isn’t a problem, because obviously restaurants have grease.”

The quick response from firefighters, who arrived within three minutes, played a crucial role in saving the Spokane staple.

SPOKANE, Wash. – A small fire broke out at Franks Diner in downtown Spokane but was quickly contained to the kitchen.

The fire started around 7:30 p.m. It was identified as a grease fire originating in the range hood.

Several customers were present in the diner when the fire broke out. One customer shared their experience.

“And next thing you know, the waiter comes by and says ‘hey – you guys have to get out of here, there’s a fire.’ And I looked at the table, and I was like, is this guy serious? I’ve got a lemonade in my hand. And next thing you know, there’s smoke showing. And you know, we get out and he was like hey we’ve got to get far away. Far away.”

No injuries were reported.
