Former Gonzaga basketball player Brandon Clarke has died

MEMPHIS, Tenn – Former Gonzaga basketball player and current Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke has died.

Clarke’s agency Priority Sports announced Clarke’s death Tuesday, saying “We are beyond devastated by the passing of Brandon Clarke. He was so loved by all of us here, and everyone whose life he touched.”

The agency did not announce how he died. He was 29 years old.

Clarke played for Gonzaga in 2018-2019. He transferred to GU after two seasons at San Jose State.

Clarke was a first round pick in the 2019 NBA draft.

He was limited to two games this season with an injury.

Clarke was arrested in Arkansas in April and led deputies on a high-speed chase. He was found with an illegal amount of the substance kratom. He was charged with speeding, fleeing police and drug trafficking.

His case was still pending at the time of his death.

The Memphis Grizzlies also released a statement, saying “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke. Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will never be forgotten. We express our deepest condolences to his family and his loved ones during this difficult time.”
