Former Boundary County detention deputy charged with aggravated batter

BOUNDARY COUNTY, Idaho – A former Boundary County detention deputy pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated battery from a 2023 incident.

Boundary County Sheriff Travis Stolley said he directed an investigation into former deputy Karl Green after gaining a “clear understanding” of the facts.

Stolley was sworn in as sheriff on January 12, 2025. He took over from former sheriff Dave Kramer, who served as sheriff for two terms.

“I became aware of the allegations before taking office. Gathering the facts took time, but once I had a clear understanding, I directed a thorough investigation. This investigation took an extended period of time for various reasons,” Stolley said in an announcement about Green’s case.

Once the investigation was complete, the case was referred to the prosecutor’s office for review.

“My priority is doing the right thing and ensuring accountability, regardless of appearances,” Stolley said.

Charges were filed this week. Green pleaded not guilty on Jan. 26, but has a probable cause hearing on Feb. 13.

“Our mission is to serve the public while also protecting detention deputies and the inmates in our facility. I take this responsibility seriously and have full confidence in our current staff, who meet high standards daily,” Stolley wrote.

The announcement did not include more details about the charges, but NonStop Local is looking into getting details about the case.

Stolley said the charges relate only one of two allegations from 2023. He said the allegations are separate matters and were being treated separately.

Stolley said community members with concerns or questions could contact him at tstolley@boundarysheriff.org.

“We value your trust and strive to earn it through our actions,” Stolley wrote.
