LEAVENWORTH, Wash. – The Wenatchee River has peaked to more than 16 feet, causing flooding in Leavenworth and Cashmere. The rising waters left around 5,000 homes without power this afternoon.
In Cashmere, community members collaborated with city workers to haul dirt and sandbags to protect vulnerable buildings. Despite these efforts, many in the flood zone experienced water entering their homes.
One resident shared that her husband called her back home shortly after she arrived at work Thursday morning. Water had started seeping into their basement, she said.
In Leavenworth, temporary power stations were set up to help residents charge their electronics as the whole town experienced a power outage throughout the day.
