FIVE MILE PRAIRIE, Wash — A water district on Five Mile Prairie is taking legal action against Spokane County, alleging the county has failed to provide homes there with safe, reliable water access.
Vel View Water Dist. #13 has filed a tort claim of up to $5,500,000, demanding that the county pay to replace the aging pipes and water infrastructure so the water district can be connected to the City of Spokane water system.
Neighbors say this has been a problem for more than 50 years and has caused financial harm to the 26 homes on the street.
To fix the problem, a project costing more than $2,000,000 would be needed to replace all of the aging and broken water infrastructure in Vel View.
The county has previously said this is up to the people living in the water district to fund, but residents say it it was an oversight by the county.
