
KOOSKIA, Idaho – Idaho County sheriff’s investigators have identified the victim of a drowning in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest as a Shady Cove, Oregon man.
On July 5, 2025, The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office said in a release that Ethan Estes, 35, was fishing when he slipped and fell into the Selway River near the Race Creek Campground along the Selway Trail.
Bystanders, who noticed him floating on the water, managed to pull him to shore and attempted CPR, but were unable to resuscitate him.
Last May, two people were killed in a on the Selway River between Double Drop and Wa-Poots in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area.
