GRANT COUNTY, Wash. – A fire erupted last night on both sides of Highway 28 west of the Desert Villa mobile home park. According to Grant County Fire (GCF) District 13, fireworks might have caused the flames.
GCF reported that the fire began some time last night. Around 1:23 a.m., they responded to several 911 calls that reported the fire burning around Highway 28.
Erratic winds reportedly punished the fire in multiple directions, but GCF firefighters were able to control the fire within 10 minutes of their arrival.
Firefighters worked on the fire spot until about 4 a.m. to ensure the fire was completely out.
A total of 10 acres burned south of Highway 28 and a quarter of an acre burned north of it.
“This is a good reminder fireworks and our vegetation don’t mix,” wrote GFD District 13 in their report on the fire.
