QUINCY, Wash. – Firefighters successfully contained the Ancient Lakes Fire near Quincy, stopping its advance at about 200 acres. The Bureau of Land Management reported that crews will continue mopping up hot spots within the containment lines to ensure the area is secure.
Earlier, the fire, driven by wind and fueled by sagebrush and grass, had grown to 100 acres. Multiple agencies, including Grant County Fire Districts 3 and 13, Ephrata Fire Department, Royal Slope Fire Rescue, and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, worked together to combat the blaze.
An evacuation notice was issued for campers in the Ancient Lakes complex, west of Quincy. Deputies went campsite to campsite to ensure safety, but there was no risk to anyone outside the complex.
The fire posed no threat to the public, according to the Bureau of Land Management. Firefighters will remain on site to manage remaining hot spots.
