Fire risk prompts Kittitas County to ban fireworks and open burning

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. – The Kittitas County Fire Marshal announced a burn ban and fireworks ban in unincorporated areas, effective July 1, 2025, at 12:01 a.m.

The ban prohibits open burning of combustible materials including leaves, branches and debris.

Fireworks are also banned, including on July 4. However, using propane or gas stoves and charcoal grills is still allowed.

Campfires are permitted only in approved fire rings at designated campgrounds, with strict guidelines for safety.

The Fire Marshal emphasized that this decision was based on factors such as wildfire fuel moisture levels and weather forecasts, projecting an extreme risk of wildfire in early July.

Residents are urged to exercise caution when using fire as a tool. They should ensure fires are in clear, fuel-free areas and never leave them unattended.

For burning inquiries on different lands, contact the Department of Natural Resources at 509-925-8510, Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife at 360-902-2515, or U.S. Forest Service at 509-852-1100.
