Fire in Cheney confirmed as external; Crews contain 1-2 acre spread

UPDATE: June 17 at 5:40 p.m.

Initially reported as a structure fire, Spokane Fire District #3 Public Affairs Director Teri Bunce confirmed the blaze had an external start and was not a structure fire and that the fire impacted one outbuilding.

Spokane Fire District #3, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Cheney Fire Department are on scene. Bunce said crews have contained the 1-2 acre fire.

No injuries were reported, and the homeowners are safe, Bunce added.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

CHENEY, Wash. – A brush fire has been reported in the 11000 block of Tareski Lane in Cheney, initially starting as a house fire and spreading to nearby brush, Spokane County Fire District #4 said in a release.

The fire is currently estimated at two acres, with crews actively engaging the head of the fire.

Outbuildings in the area are threatened.

Fire crews are working to contain the blaze, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

Residents in the area are advised to stay alert and follow any safety instructions from local officials.
