SPOKANE, Wash. – A fire broke out at Avista Stadium early this morning, affecting the concessions building next to the stadium. The fire started around 2:30 a.m. with flames visible and parts of the structure collapsing.
The Spokane Fire Department is on the scene, reporting no injuries related to the incident. Due to the intensity of the blaze, fire crews may need to allow the fire to burn through the roof before addressing it directly.
Stadium officials, including the Indian senior vice president and the general manager, have expressed their feelings about the situation. They conveyed their emotions, saying, “We’re heartbroken,” as they watched the stadium, a local landmark, face significant damage.
With the baseball season ending, there are no more home games scheduled at the stadium. Despite the fire, the state fair nearby will continue as planned. Parking will remain accessible on the fairgrounds.
