Fire at Lake City High School leads to evacuation during tournament in Coeur D’ Alene


COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – A fire broke out at a Lake City High School during a wrestling tournament on Saturday afternoon, prompting an evacuation.

According to Craig Etherton, public information officer for Coeur d’Alene Fire, crews responded to the fire around 2:30 p.m. Etherton said the fire originated in a light fixture, though the exact type is still unknown.

School staff managed to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived. Despite their efforts, the sprinkler system activated, and crews are now assessing potential water damage.

All participants of the tournament were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported. The extent of the damage is still under review.
