UPDATE: August 21, 7:34 a.m.

The North Madelia Structure fire was held to a glass warehouse near Spokane’s East Central. The fire has been reduced to smolders and smoke, but Spokane Fire Department is still on the scene.

Crews worked overnight to keep the fire contained. At one point of the night, a tree fell, taking down a power line with it. The walls and roof of the building also collapsed as the building burned.

Firefighters on the scene said this fire is one of the most significant fires they have responded to in the last couple of years.

The Spokane Fire Department responded to the fire at 8:16 p.m. last night and said that when they arrived, the building was already well involved and smoke was coming out of every window.

Firefighters on the scene were particularly worried about the fire spreading to other buildings, especially regarding a multi-thousand gallon tank of gasoline next door to the warehouse. They sprayed water on the tanks to cool them off from the extreme heat caused by the fire.

Firefighters also worried about the fire spreading to the Pacific Pride gas station across the street from the flaming warehouse.

Spokane Fire Department held a press conference this morning discussing details about the fire.
