SEATTLE, Wash. – A federal judge in Seattle has blocked the Trump administration from enforcing vote-by-mail orders.
The orders, issued in March, would have required proof of citizenship to register and mandated all ballots to arrive by Election Day. Noncompliance would put states at risk of losing federal funding.
The U.S. District Judge ruled that these orders exceeded presidential authority, aligning with similar rulings in other states.
Following the judge’s decision, Washington state will continue accepting ballots postmarked by Election Day.
Senator Maria Cantwell praised the ruling on Saturday night, releasing a statement on X.
