The Department of Health and Human Services can continue sharing personal data of certain Medicaid enrollees with deportation officials. This development follows a federal judge’s ruling, effective Monday.
The decision is a setback for states like Washington and Oregon, which had sued the administration over privacy concerns.
While the lawsuit aimed to protect data privacy, the judge’s ruling limits the scope of data sharing to basic biographical information about undocumented immigrants residing in the United States.
Nearly two dozen states participated in the lawsuit. For now, the data shared will remain restricted to minimal personal details.
