WASHINGTON – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been ordered to deploy more agents across the country to enforce immigration laws. This move signifies a major shift in priorities for federal law enforcement.
The shift comes as the White House proposes a 5% reduction in bureau operations. Ben Wilkinson, an FBI spokesperson, defended the change in focus, stating that the FBI is committed to supporting their partners in immigration enforcement and will continue to do so.
In Seattle, which oversees Washington, Oregon and Alaska, the FBI has already removed 361 undocumented individuals. Efforts are underway to obtain similar data from the Salt Lake Division, which covers Wyoming and Montana.
