UTAH – Confusion surrounded the search for a gunman in Utah as conflicting statements emerged from law enforcement agencies. FBI Director Kash Patel stated most recently that the gunman remains at large, contradicting earlier information.
During a press conference earlier this evening, the FBI Director tweeted that a person was in custody as the gunman. This was at odds with the information being shared live at the event.
Police on the ground explained that a person initially taken into custody was considered a suspect but later ruled out. This individual was instead booked on obstruction of justice charges.
Authorities also mentioned questioning a separate person, though details remained unclear. They reported possessing a video of a suspect dressed in all black, but the footage was described as “pretty granulated.”
Despite these developments, the FBI Director emphasized that no one is currently in custody, after the Governor of Utah referred to the incident as a political assassination.
