Fatal train collision claims life of Sandpoint man

SANDPOINT, Idaho – A fatal crash involving a vehicle and a train north of Sandpoint claimed the life of a local man.

According to the Idaho State Police, the collision occurred on December 28, 2025, at around 2 p.m. The accident happened at the intersection of West Selle Road and North Boyer Road.

A 63-year-old man from Sandpoint was driving a white 2008 Nissan Titan westbound on West Selle Road. He collided with a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train. The impact pushed the vehicle off the roadway.

Tragically, the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene. The train stopped after initiating its brakes, blocking the road for approximately four hours.

Authorities have notified the man’s next of kin. The Idaho State Police continue to investigate the incident.
