Fatal rollover crash on US 95 happens near Athol, Idaho

ATHOL, Idaho – Idaho State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that happened around 1:45 a.m. on July 19.

This morning they announced that an 18-year-old man driving a 1998 Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on US 95, failed to maintain their lane, ran of the roadway, tried to correct their course and then overturned. Their car rolled onto the roadway and their car crashed onto the right northbound lane near milepost 448.

The driver was the only person in the car. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died from his injuries at the scene.

Police say that his next of kin has been notified.

Traffic was blocked northbound for about 20 minutes and then for a further 40 minutes to allow emergency responders to provide assistance.

The right lane remained closed for two hours after, but all lanes are now open.
