Fatal crash on Interstate 90 in Post Falls closes road for hours

POST FALLS, ID – A four-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 resulted in one fatality on Monday, September 8, 2025. The Idaho State Police reported the collision occurred at approximately 4:03 p.m. near milepost 2.

A gray 2013 Toyota Prius, driven by a 58-year-old man from Livingston, Montana, crossed into the westbound lanes after failing to negotiate a curve. The Prius collided with a 2024 Volvo semi-truck, occupied by a 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman from Spokane, Washington.

The crash also involved a white 2019 Ford F350 pickup driven by a 23-year-old man from Spokane, and a white 2019 Toyota Tundra driven by a 34-year-old man from Priest River, Idaho. Both vehicles sustained minor damage.

The Prius driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported from the occupants of the other vehicles.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 90 were closed for about three and a half hours, reopening at 7:44 p.m. Several local agencies assisted at the scene, including the Post Falls Police Department and Kootenai County Fire Rescue.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
