COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – The North Idaho State Fair kicked off Friday, attracting thousands with its rides, food and entertainment. Despite the modern-day festivities, agriculture remains at the heart of the fair.

Faith Snyder, owner-operator of Shepherds Abundance Dairy Goats in Kingston, explained the significance of agriculture at the event.

“I wanted to teach my grandchildren the importance of growing things yourself and where your food comes from and the things that we should be feeding and putting inside of our bodies,” she said.

For Snyder, the fair is more than just a showcase. It’s about community and preserving traditions.

“The one thing that I love about the shows is it’s a community. You meet a lot of other people that have the same interests, that want to raise their children and grandchildren the same way… they become friends for life,” Snyder stated.

Snyder emphasized that showing goats is not merely a hobby but a way of life.

“It’s a lifestyle for us, for sure. I love it because my kids are involved, my grandchildren are involved. It’s a great weekend to spend together teaching them… I encourage families to do this. It’s a way to bond with your children and grandchildren and teach them further down the line of what our animals were designed for,” she added.

The North Idaho State Fair continues through next weekend, featuring livestock shows and agricultural events daily.
