WASHINGTON — Families affected by police violence are actively lobbying Washington legislators to prioritize police accountability, according to a report.

The Washington Coalition for Police Accountability is highlighting several key bills during this legislative session. These include support for an independent prosecutor, attorney general investigations and leadership within law enforcement.

Debbie Novak, Eastern Region Lead for the coalition, emphasized the importance of education in the legislative process, saying, “It’s an educational process…start having rollbacks.”

The coalition is also focusing on regulating automatic license plate readers, prohibiting facial coverings and encouraging the use of body-worn cameras among other priorities.
