Evacuations upgraded to Level 2 (Get Set) for 10-acre brush fire near Cheney

CHENEY, Wash. — UPDATE, 4:50 p.m. The brush fire on South Aspen Meadows Drive near Cheney is now estimated to be 10 acres.

One home has been destroyed, according to Spokane County Fire District 3.

Level 2 (Get Set) evacuations are still in place in the area.

Firefighters say crews are making good progress on the fire.

UPDATE, 3:37 p.m. Evacuations have been upgraded to Level 2 (Get Set to Leave) for a wildfire burning on South Aspen Meadows Drive near Cheney.

According to Spokane County Fire District 3, evacuations are for a half-mile in each direction of the fire’s location.

A brush fire is burning on South Aspen Meadows Drive near Cheney.

According to Spokane County Fire District 3, Level 1 (Be Ready) evacuations have been issued for a half-mile in each direction of the fire’s location.

Additional units have been requested for a structure fire at the location as well. Several more structures in the area are currently threatened.

According to Fire District 3 Chief Cody Rohrbach, the wind is causing the fire to spread and create smaller spot fires.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
